Joyride Overland: Frequently Asked Questions
Bookings and Logistics
How do I book a truck?
You can browse our fleet and check availability directly on our website’s Rental Vehicles page. It will take you to Outdoorsy.com where we handle our bookings. Select your dates, confirm the vehicle and packages, and complete your reservation. We recommend booking at least 2-3 months in advance for summer weekends!
What is included in the rental price?
Every Joyride rental is a ready-to-go camp setup. This includes the equipped Toyota truck (Tacoma or 4Runner), the rooftop tent, sleeping pads, bedding, cooler, and basic needs (toilet paper, bug spray, etc). For an all-inclusive experience, we also provide packages that include chairs, table, lights, stove/propane, cookware, and utensils. We provide a full packing list with everything included so you can truly just show up and drive.
Where is Joyride Overland located?
Our pickup and drop-off location is conveniently located in Denver, Colorado. The exact address will be provided in your confirmation email after booking.
What are the pickup and drop-off times?
Pick-up: Typically begins at 12:00 PM on your first day. This allows us time for thorough vehicle prep and gives you a chance for a detailed orientation.
Drop-off: Typically by 2:00 PM on your last day.
Need different times? If you need an earlier pickup or later drop-off, please ask! We can often accommodate requests, based on vehicle availability.
What is your cancellation policy?
We offer a 100% refund if you cancel up to 5 days before your scheduled trip. For cancellations closer to the date, 25% of the rental fee is retained.
The Trucks & Gear
Do I need 4x4 or off-road experience to rent a Joyride truck?
Absolutely not! Joyride is designed for approachable adventures. Our trucks and gear are robust, but you don't need to be an expert. We provide a thorough, hands-on orientation and easy-to-follow guides for the truck and the gear. We primarily focus on maintained forest roads and scenic byways, not extreme trails.
Are the trucks automatic or manual transmission?
All vehicles in the Joyride fleet are automatic transmission. This keeps the driving experience simple and stress-free.
How many people can sleep in the rooftop tent?
Most of our rooftop tents can comfortably sleep 2 adults. Our 4runner setup is slightly larger and can accommodate an extra child.
Can I bring my dog?
Yes! We love responsible pet owners. As long as it’s not obvious your furry friend joined the trip, no pet cleaning fee will apply. If extra cleaning is needed, a $75 fee will be charged.
Trip Planning & Guidance
Do you provide route suggestions or itineraries?
Yes! This is what we do best. We offer free, curated itineraries, focusing on easy-to-access but stunning areas in Colorado and the Mountain West.
Do I need to book campsites in advance?
For popular destinations (National Parks, developed campgrounds), especially during summer and holiday weekends, yes, you must book in advance. For dispersed camping on Forest Service or BLM land, reservations are generally not needed, but you still need to follow all local regulations. We cover this in our trip planning guides!
What happens if the gear breaks or I have a mechanical issue?
While our vehicles are meticulously maintained, things happen.
Minor Gear Issue (e.g., stove won't light): Call us! We can usually troubleshoot it over the phone.
Major Mechanical Issue: All our vehicles are covered by roadside assistance when booked through Outdoorsy. Call the provided number, and then call us immediately. We will work quickly to get you back on the road safely.
